Terms & Conditions

Please read these terms and conditions carefully before booking a session with  Sydney Thunder Volleyball (STV) or any volleyball trainings, events, membership or service hosted by STV. By signing up to any volleyball trainings or events hosted by STV, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

 

Conditions of Entry

  • Participants with serious medical conditions or recovering from serious illness or injury should advise STV staff upon entry.

  • STV reserves the right to refuse entry or remove participants from any volleyball trainings or events hosted by STV, where STV has reasonable grounds to suspect a participant has breached any of these Terms & Conditions, including:

    • No consumption of food on the court at any time.

    • Appropriate sporting attire, including footwear, must be worn at all times.

    • Behave appropriately and follow the lawful directions of STV staff.

    • Derogative comments, abusive language and inappropriate or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

    • No smoking, consumption of alcohol or illicit drugs at any time.

  • Participating in STV requires individuals to present themselves in a welcoming manner.

    • Participants must be kind, courteous and behave in an appropriate manner.

    • Exclusion and rude comments to other members will result in the individual in question to leave the premises.

Waivers:

  • By participating in an STV event you have agreed to and bound by all the waivers that have been provided on STV’s facebook page.

    • Additionally by paying for a STV session and participating you have agreed that you have read all waivers, accepted the terms and will not hold STV liable for any adverse events as noted on the waiver. 

    • In participating in STV any injuries, damage to personal items, emotional harm or legal issues will not be made liable to STV or its employees/staff but to the individual themself as supported by the waivers.

 

Cancellations

  • All purchases, registrations and bookings are final. 

  • All purchases will not be eligible for refunds or credits due to a change of mind 

  • Tickets are not transferable between people unless approved by STV’s management.

  • Cancellations within 72 hours of the event will result in the forfeit of the ticket purchased for that event.

  • Credits may be issued to participants who have a medical emergency and can provide supporting evidence

  • Credit will be eligible for the financial year that they are bought in and will expire at the end of the financial year.

  • Participants are committed to the entire length of a Social Competition and are not able to cancel, reschedule, postpone or substitute their individual or team entry once the season has commenced.

  • STV reserves the right to review reasonable requests for make-up sessions on a case-by-case basis

 

Refunds

  • All purchases will not be eligible for refunds or credits due to a change of mind 

  • If an STV training or event is rescheduled or canceled, STV will automatically issue credits

  • Credits may be issued to people who request one based on STV’s management's decisions due to health issues with evidence of a medical certificate. 

  • Refunds may be issued if the participant has a medical emergency where a medical certificate has been provided to STV.

 

Photography

  • Photography, videography and any media obtained during any volleyball sessions or events hosted by STV may be used as marketing material for STV's social media and print media without any compensation.

Agreement to Participate Liability Waiver for Participating in Sydney Thunder Volleyball Club 

 

Agreement to Participate. All activities involve certain inherent risks. Regardless of the care taken, it is impossible to guarantee the safety of all participants. While Sydney Thunder Volleyball Club is using care in conducting the event, it is unable to eliminate all risk from the activities.

 

Waiver and Release: I hereby waive and release Sydney Thunder Volleyball Club, its officers, agents and employees, from and against any claims, suits, losses, or related causes of action for damages, including attorney’s fees and court costs, that may result from injury or death, accidental or otherwise, during, or arising from my participation in a recreation program, including transportation to and from activities associated with the program, and any resulting illness and/or injury, and I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Sydney Thunder Volleyball Club from and against any and all such claims. I recognize that the recreational events or activities being entered into by me can be dangerous to me and I accept those dangers. I understand that if I am injured, this waiver will be used against me and anyone else claiming damage in any legal action because of my injury. I hereby acknowledge that I understand and am familiar with the nature of the activities in which I will participate at this facility, and affirm that I am in good health and that I do not have a physical or emotional condition, past or present, of which I am aware, which would in any way affect my ability to participate in recreation programs. I also understand that I should have health and accident insurance to cover injuries arising from participation in recreation programs. In case of emergency, I give my permission for emergency medical treatment of me and for transportation to such treatment. I agree with Sydney Thunder Volleyball’s refund policy. 

 

I agree to abide by the rules and regulations set by Sydney Thunder Volleyball Club. I understand that violations of the rules and regulations, or misrepresentation of information on this form, may result in restriction, revocation, reduction or loss of program privileges without refund. 

 

 

 

Volleyfest

Players

  • A team can have a maximum of six players on the court at any given time.

  • A minimum of four players must be on the court to avoid forfeiting the game.

  • Mixed teams are required to have one woman in positions at all times.

    • Teams without one woman playing will either have women sub in for them or points will be deducted for a win or draw.

    • See section “Scoring for more details”

    • In spirit of volleyball etiquette two women on the court is recommended at all times however if circumstances arise only one woman is required in position at all times

  • Players must remove any object that may be dangerous to others, such as watches or jewellery, and any facial jewellery must be taped. Wedding bands or medic alert bracelets may be worn but must be appropriately taped. Spectacles can be worn as long as they do not pose a significant danger to others.

  • Nails must be trimmed.

  • Appropriate non-marking covered footwear must be worn.

Gameplay Rules

  • Players are asked to know the official volleyball rules, play by them and be courteous to others at all times

  • A team can only have three contacts with the ball during each possession on one side of the net. The sequence of contacts is usually a pass, a set, and a hit.

  • No player can make contact with the ball twice in succession, and the ball cannot be caught or carried over the net.

  • A block is not considered one of the three contacts.The first contact after a block may be executed by any player, including the one who made the block.

  • The server must step behind the end line and may serve from any location as long as their foot does not touch or cross the line. A foot fault occurs if the server's foot crosses the end line, resulting in a change of possession.

  • Time-outs are not permitted during the final 5 minutes of a match.

  • Substitutions are permitted during the final 5 minutes of a match, but teams delaying the substitution process during this time should expect the strict application of the rules in relation to time-delays. 

Scoring

  • Wednesday's/Volleyfest games are played to the best of three sets. The first two sets are to 25 points, and the third set is to 15 points or whenever time permits. 

    • 10 minutes warm up 

    • 50 minutes game time

    • First two games need to go above at least 15 points to count

    • Third set needs to go above 8 points to count, with a lead of 2 points to win

  • Preseason Cup games are played to the best of three sets. The first two sets are to 25 points, and the third set is to 15 points or whenever time permits. 

    • 6 minutes warm up 

    • 54 minutes game time

    • First two sets need to go above at least 13 points to count, with a lead of 2 points to win

    • Third set needs to go above 8 points to count, with a lead of 2 points to win

 

  • Sunday’s games are played in three sets. The first two sets are to 25 points, and the third set is to 15 points or whenever time permits.

    • 10 minutes warm up 

    • 1 hour game time

  • Wednesday’s Competition/Volleyfest points: 

 

Win: 3

Tie: 2

Loss (with 1 set won): 1

Loss: 0

Forfeit: -1

Without Girls: Half points

  • The final week of games for placement of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be determined by this scoring system.

Rotation

  • There are three players in the front row and three in the back, and each player rotates clockwise to the next position during play.

  • When a player is in the back row, they cannot attack the ball in front of the 10-foot line. 

  • Rotation will follow official volleyball rules.

Substitutions

  • Substitutions can be made with permission from the umpire or for injury or illness.

  • If a substitution is made due to injury or illness, the injured or ill player must be involved in the substitution or positional change.

  • There is no limit to the number of substitutions a team can make, provided they use only registered players.

Stoppages

  • To stop play, the umpire must blow the whistle and signal to the timekeeper.

  • When a player is injured or ill, play can be stopped for up to two minutes.

  • Referees have the final say on calls, and any misconduct or abuse may result in disciplinary penalties.

Starting the Game

  • Prior to the match, the 1st referee carries out a coin toss with captains to decide who has first service and the sides of the court in the first set.

  • The winner of the toss chooses EITHER:

    • The right to serve or receive the service, OR

    • The side of the court

  • The loser takes the remaining choice.

Forfeits

  • Teams must attend every game scheduled for the season.

  • A forfeit may be declared if a game does not start within five minutes of the allocated starting time.

  • If a team forfeits their match, the opposing team will be awarded a win, and the forfeiting team will receive -3 points on the premiership ladder.

Duty Teams: 

  • All teams will be required to perform duty at designated times during the Volleyfest 

    • Will be allocated as fairly as possible. Each Duty Team is required to provide:

      • 1st Referee;

      • 2nd Referee;

      • Scorer; and,

      • 2 x Line Referees

  • Where possible qualified referees will be appointed as 1st Referee 

  • Teams failing to fulfil their duty requirements will be penalised 2 points.

 

 

Liability Waiver

Agreement to Participate.

  • Waiver and Release: I hereby waive and release Sydney Thunder Volleyball Club, its officers, agents and employees, from and against any claims, suits, losses, or related causes of action for damages, including attorney’s fees and court costs, that may result from injury or death, accidental or otherwise, during, or arising from my participation in a recreation program, including transportation to and from activities associated with the program, and any resulting illness and/or injury, and I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Sydney Thunder Volleyball Club from and against any and all such claims including negligence, act or omission of Sydney Thunder Volleyball or any other persons referred to above. I recognize that the recreational events or activities being entered into by me can be dangerous to me and I accept those dangers. I understand that if I am injured, this waiver will be used against me and anyone else claiming damage in any legal action because of my injury. I hereby acknowledge that I understand and am familiar with the nature of the activities in which I will participate at this facility, and affirm that I am in good health and that I do not have a physical or emotional condition, past or present, of which I am aware, which would in any way affect my ability to participate in recreation programs. I also understand that I should have health and accident insurance to cover injuries arising from participation in recreation programs. In case of emergency, I give my permission for emergency medical treatment of me and for transportation to such treatment.

  • Photo/Video Consent: Photographs/videos may be taken during various programs. These photographs/videos may be used for future Sydney Thunder Volleyball Club promotional material.

  • I agree to abide by the rules and regulations set by Sydney Thunder Volleyball Club. I understand that violations of the rules and regulations, or misrepresentation of information on this form, may result in restriction, revocation, reduction or loss of program privileges without refund.

Refund Policy

  • Refund requests must be made in writing with justification to the Volleyfest Manager at least 7 days before registration is completed or/and before registration closes (whichever if first). Refunds are at the discretion of the Volleyfest Manager.

Grievance and Disciplinary Policy

Sydney Thunder Volleyball reserves the right to:

  • Stop a game to ensure the emotional or physical safety of the players or officials. 

  • Ask a player or teams to leave the game and/or the venue in the first instance should the behaviour be aggressive  or substantial enough to warrant harm to others. This includes but is not limited to: physical or verbal abuse and deliberate unsportsmanlike play likely to cause injury.

Other T&Cs

  • All players are required to read Sydney Thunder Volleyball’s policies and T&C’s, readily available on the Facebook page.

  • By paying and entering the Volleyfest the team and players in question have agreed that they have read and agreed with all terms, conditions and policies of STV.
